Following his team's World Cup group-stage elimination, Belgium captain Eden Hazard announced his retirement from international soccer 

on Wednesday at the age of 31. The forward participated in all three of Belgium's Group F games but failed to score

as the team finished third after defeating Canada, falling to Morocco, and drawing 0-0 with Croatia.

In 126 games since making his international debut in 2008, Hazard has scored 33 goals. He aided Belgium in defeating England in the third-place

playoff and advancing to the 2018 World Cup semifinals, where they fell to eventual champions France.

"I've made the decision to quit my international career. Hazard stated on Instagram that the succession is prepared, according to Reuters.
