Prithvi Shaw, who has recently returned to form, smashed a record-breaking 379 off just 382 balls against hapless Assam on Wednesday at the Amingaon
Cricket Ground in Guwahati, becoming the second-highest individual scorer in Ranji Trophy history. He also sent a clear message to the new national
selection committee that he should be called up for the upcoming home series against Australia and New Zealand.
The second-highest Ranji Trophy score ever was made by Prithvi Shaw. The opener started the second day of Mumbai's Group B encounter against
Assam in an alarming style, blasting 139 runs off 99 balls before being out for 379. He had an overnight score of 240.
The highest Ranji Trophy score and the best first-class score by an Indian batter are still both held by Bhausaheb Nimbalkar, who hit an undefeated
443 for Maharashtra against Kathiawar back in December 1948. But Shaw has now climbed to No. 2 on both of those lists.
